Boeing 767 History:
The Boeing 767 is an American wide-body jet airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The medium to long-range jetliner B767 was designed in tandem with the narrow-body Boeing 757 twinjet. The Boeing family is a complete family of airplanes providing maximum market versatility in the 200- to 300-seat market. The Boeing 767 family inclludes 3 passannger models - the 767-200ER and 676-400ER -- and a freighter, which is based on the 767-300ER fuselage. The B767 made its first flight on September 26, 1981 and entered service on September 8, 1982 with United Airlines.
Construction of the prototype Boeing 767, a -200 variant, began on July 6, 1979. It made its first flight on September 26, 1981.
As of February 2001, a number of 984 B767 has been produced. New orders slowed in the early 21st century leading to speculation that the production line may be closed down, particularly if the US Air Force does not order a tanker variant. Order levels improved, however, though the 767 line will eventually be replaced by the Boeing 787.
