Boeing 757 US Airways History
This mid-size narrow-body twinjet airliner from Boeing Commercial Airplanes was launched with orders from Eastern Airlines and British airways in 1978, which was set to replace the 727 trijet. The 757 became commonly used by operators in both the US and Europe after its introduction. It has also been acquired to serve as government, military, and VIP transport.
After 1,050 757s were built, production stopped dated on October 28, 2004. The final aircraft was delivered to Shanghai Airlines on November 28, 2005. As of 2009, Delta Air Lines operates the largest 757 fleet.
The All American Aviation Company was founded by Richard C. du Pont, Alexis Felix du Pont, Jr. and CEO Steven Gardner. Started in Pittsburgh, the airline served the Ohio River valley in 1939. In 1949, the company was renamed All American Airways as it switched from airmail to passenger service. The company was again renamed to Allegheny Airlines in 1953. By the 1970s, Allegheny Airlines had earned the nickname "Agony Air" due to customer dissatisfaction with the carrier's service. Allegheny changed its name to US Air in 1979.
