Boeing 757 History

This mid-size narrow-body twinjet airliner from Boeing Commercial Airplanes was launched with orders from Eastern Airlines and British airways in 1978, which was set to replace the 727 trijet. The 757 became commonly used by operators in both the US and Europe after its introduction. It has also been acquired to serve as government, military, and VIP transport.

After 1,050 757s were built, production stopped dated on October 28, 2004. The final aircraft was delivered to Shanghai Airlines on November 28, 2005. As of 2009, Delta Air Lines operates the largest 757 fleet.

Boeing first offered 6 757s that were surplus to America West. The fleet would eventually stabilize at 13 examples by 1998. Aircraft 908-910 were first certified for ETOPS operations, to fly to Hawaii, in early 2005. Aircraft 901-906 followed later in 2005.
