B-32 Dominator History:

Manufactured by the Consolidated Aircraft, the B-32 Dominator is a heavy bomber type of aircraft. Its first flight was on the September 7 1942 and it was introduced commercially on the January 27 1945 but retired on the 30th of August 1945. Its primary used by the United States Army Air Force. The B-32 Dominator was designed by Consolidated to meet an Air Force specification that also resulted in the competing Boeing B-29 Superfortress. Each company won contracts to produce aircraft, but Consolidated ran into problems with the B-32 development. Like the B-29, the B-32 had pressurized crew compartments and remotely-controlled gun turrets. When the production examples of the B-32 were delivered in November 1944, however, these two features had been deleted from the aircraft. Only 15 aircraft were to become operational before VJ-Day (plus another 40 training examples), but at the end of the war all versions were very soon withdrawn from service.

The B-32 Dominator was used by the US Army Air Forces during World War II. It is said to be the last Allied aircraft engaged in combat during the Second World War. In 1940, the US Army Air Corps has requested to have a similar design of the B-29 from the Consolidated Aircraft Company in case a problem occurs with the B-29.

On the 17th of March 1943 the first contract for B-32-CF has been signed but problems on its development went on. On the 10th of May 1943, the initial XB-32 crashed during takeoff and on the 2nd of July the second XB-32 flew but the stability problem of the aircraft continued.

The B-32 Dominator's first assignment was given when the commander of Allied Air Forces in the South West Pacific Area named General George Kenney and the commander of the US Fifth Air Force traveled to Washington DC and requested B-29s. This request was denied so they requested the B-32 instead. Unfortunately, no example of B-32 had survived. Most of them were scrapped in 1947.
