History of the B-247 UNITED AIRLINES
The Boeing Model 247 is the first modern passenger airliner incorporating many revolutionary features. It has an all-metal (anodized aluminum) semi-monocoque construction, a fully cantilevered wing and retractable landing gear. Other advanced features include control-surface trim tabs, an autopilot and deicing boots for the wings and tail. The Boeing 247, despite being the first one to enter production had a passenger load which was too few to make it commercially viable airliner.
The Boeing 247 first entered service on May 22, 1993. Its maiden flight was on February 8, 1933. There were seventy five 247s built. The 247s remained in airline service until World War II.
